The Pentland family is rich and part of the upper class, but their world is rapidly changing. There is a real richness to Olivia Pentland, in particular, and Bromfield really gives her a full range of emotions and impulses that makes it wonderful to stay at her side through some very difficult patches. He probably only did this three or four times, but it was incredibly irritating to me and stuck out every time it happened.

The reader realizes it is the nurse, Miss Egan. The plot moves rapidly and in ways not always easy to anticipate.
